As I am nearly done with my first novel, I’d like to share one of the biggest surprises I have had on this journey.
In a nutshell… It’s about rewriting and revising my book.
Many writers and authors have said “Writing is rewriting”. Through this process, I have come to learn how true that is.
But, to me, there is more than that!
Rewriting gets the wheels of your imagination CHURNING!!
In other words….
“Writing is the process of putting cream into the bucket… And rewriting is the process of turning that cream into butter!”
Rewriting can be done in many ways… and I am glad that I have tested a few of them outin writing this children’s YA novel: “The Kaleidoscopic Hat”. I have read it out loud. I have gone through it word-by-word. I have listened to it being read.
What I have discovered is that each time I go through my book AGAIN (Arrgh!) much more inspiration and ideas flow through me onto the page.
I have created new scenes and new characters. I have found “holes” in the story that I never knew existed. And I have written some of the most poetic lines I have ever written.
Rewriting has given my book wings. It has made me write things that are intriguing, wise, suspenseful, and down-right FUNNY as hell!
I hope that when “my baby” is ready to show the world that my readers will have the various emotional reactions I am having writing it!
