As is widely known, three of the great religions – Judaism, Islam, and Christianity – all descend from The Prophet Abraham. They are three pièces of the same heart. Judaism is a Mystical path to God. Islam is a Poetic path to God. And Christianity is a Symbolic path to God. However, unlike with Taoists, Buddhists, and Hinduists, what these faiths have in common is that their followers all have the concept of either being “The Chosen People” or an Elite group of people who will easily pass through the gates of Heaven based on the religion they practiced here on Earth. Many of these followers feel they have a guaranteed seat waiting for them in Heaven on the right hand of God. The Chosen People or Elite will live in paradise after death. A place filled with Angels and Virgins, where harps are playing and we are surrounded by our loved ones. However… only upon your group does God smile favorably. The limited space in Heaven has only a limited number of seats for only those who have practiced and believed in God the way you do. As for everybody else…. Ha! They will all burn in Hell.
Feeling that you are chosen or in an elite group because of your faith, blinds you from truly seeing and accepting the good in others. Someone from another faith might do you good, honest, and heartfelt deed, but it is never fully accepted as if it were to come from someone in your elite chosen group. In your conditioned mind, they and their deed are tainted. But, how is it possible to tap into true, transcendent universal joy when you see most of the world’s people as barbarians? How can we see the heavens when all we see are the heathens ?
Developing the alchemic ability to turn dust into gold is a mental sign of greatness for yourself!
So, who are those seats next to God reserved for ? What religion is written on the name tag ? Does it say “Sunni Muslim”? Does is say “Orthodox Catholic”? Does it say “Hasidic Jew”? Or even “Evangelical First A.M.E Southern Baptist”? The thing that is confusing is that there are three religions simultaneously believing that they are The Chosen or Elite children of God. Who’s right? What’s even more confusing is when you factor in other world religions where they don’t pray to a God who has such a segregated and wrathful way of managing Heaven. A God that is not of Universal Love, but one that is judgemental, vengeful and who is waiting until after we die to tell us we wasted all the loving and faithful thoughts we had of him to send us straight to Hell.
What we also see in all three of these paths is that, through the passage of Time, they have become splintered. One path became two… then it became five… and then in some cases it became more than twenty. On one hand, this splintering shows the human thirst for spiritual knowledge… but on the other hand, we must ask ourselves “Did God cause this splintering or did the human mind ?”.
People who feel that because they have followed their particular path (The Path of Symbolism, The Path of Mysticism, or The Path of Poetry), believe they will be treated with special favor by God. They will be given heavenly gifts either because of some act they performed here on Earth or by following the doctrines of their religion in Life. Even if they did not strictly practice these doctrines as they should have, just by being in the group of The Chosen/Elite People they will have a guaranteed seat next to God in Heaven. Many of these believers act as if our abundant, limitless, Universal God can only afford a few. number of seats. As if we need to make a reservation. These followers will tell you that everything about God is unlimited… except for these seats. In their minds, they want to be assured of one. So to cut back on the number of people fighting for these seats, they start making distinctions within their own religion between the “Righteous Chosen People” and “The Unrighteous Chosen People”. So, are we to believe that God can not make one more seat for someone who loved and adored him in his or her way? Is God going to make “The Unrighteous” ones to sit on the floor?
It is sad because countless people have died because of these conflicts. Consider the wars between Sunni and Shiite Muslims and between Protestants and Catholics.
The only thing we need to guarantee ourselves a seat is an open and compassionate mind and a heart full of Love and spiritual aspiration.
